Aryabhata I or Aryabhata The Elder was born around 476 CE in Kusumapura, Pataliputra and died in 550 CE in Kusumpura, Pataliputra when he was 74 years old. He was a famous Mathematian and Astronomer. He had made many theories in Mathematics and Astronomy.

He had written many books for Mathematics and Astronomy but many books were lost. Out of these books two famous books are:

  • Aryabhatiya
  • Aryabhatasiddhanta
Aryabhatiya:

Aryabhata had written this book in 499 CE when he was 23 years old. In this books he had cover all mathematical theories.

Aryabhatasiddhanta:

The book "Aryabhatasiddhanta" is based on the astronmical computation done by Aryabhata.

Influenced: Lalla, Bhaskara I, Brahmagupta, Varahamihiray.

Note: It's important to note that there is a distinction between Aryabhata I and Aryabhata II. Aryabhata I, about whome this website describes, is the famous Mathematician and Astronomer of the 5th century CE. Aryabhata II was a later Mathematician from the 10th century CE, who is also known for his work in Mathematics.

Aryabhata's legacy continues to be celebrated, and his ideas continue to inspire researchers and scholars in the fields of mathematics and astronomy.
